Paradigm of a Full-Service Management Contract at Its Best

Uplands Village is a progressive Life Plan Community located in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee. This vibrant community is part of a three-year, full-service management contract with United Church Homes Management and is a prime example of what a partnership with UCHM can look like. Over the past year, we’ve assisted this nontraditional senior living community with developing a plan for long-term financial sustainability. Strategic direction acts as the guiding compass that will aid Uplands Village in achieving their goals such as growing occupancy in all service lines including independent living, assisted living, memory care, short-term rehabilitation, long-term care and home healthcare.

A transparent partnership includes consistent meetings and clarity of communication

Regular meetings with the operating and finance committees as well as the Uplands board ensures we stay aligned with day-to-day operations and can provide guidance when needed. This consistency and clarity of communication on both sides ensures we are all on board with the strategy and goals we’ve set forth. Initiatives such as the implementation of alternative energy sources and cost-reducing waste management techniques has already helped the community to cut down costs and enhanced the lives of residents.

Our personalized approach speaks to the community’s history of resident engagement and environmental advocacy. By providing an interim executive director and licensed nursing home administrator, we were able to support the community’s healthcare team during times of urgency which allowed them to focus on executing new care initiatives. Additional support came in the form of a student-intern, who worked alongside Uplands’ resident-led environmental committee, known as the Green Team, to draft what is referred to as the Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability Master Plan. This document further solidifies Uplands status as a green community and was adopted by the Uplands board in fall 2018.

The implementation of a variety of programs has helped the Uplands community to see tangible success

As part of our management contract with Uplands Village, we’ve completed extensive financial and operational reviews, which has resulted in increased revenues and decreased expenses. We’ve helped establish procedures and policies for Uplands’ SAGECare training and certification as well as implemented a major marketing campaign. This anticipatory thinking gives Uplands Village a competitive edge in a challenging market and ensures they have the resources needed to keep their community thriving for many years to come.
